CHENNAI: A police officer's job is not restricted to dealing with criminals alone. C. Sylendra Babu, Joint Commissioner of Police (South), has donned a new role: A writer to motivate students to take up Indian Police Service examinations.
His book `You too can become an IPS Officer', which was released by S.P. Thyagarajan, Vice-Chancellor of Madras University on Thursday, provides the basic information on IPS and requirement to succeed in the exams.
Priced at Rs. 40, the slim book gives the readers an idea of the job profile, eligibility conditions to take up the examination and how to apply in a simple narrative style.
Candidates would also learn about the plan of examination and prepare through books and other methods of study suggested in the book.
The book, which has a chapter dedicated to boost the candidates' confidence, has model question papers and syllabus for the examination.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Sylendra Babu said several professionals he had known were keen on becoming IPS officers and succeeded in their attempt. This served as an inspiration to write the book and reach out to more students to take up the challenging career.
